Note:This report details the entire length of the old Post Road from Austin, through San Marcos and Hays County, to San Antonio. Color photographs taken in 2014 and 2015 accompany detailed descriptions of the entire route, including historical information about the structures that remain from the 20th century.

Note:"The Austin to San Antonio Post Road (A-SAPR) roadway began at the Congress Avenue bridge over the Colorado River in Austin and continued to downtown San Antonio, stretching north to south across five counties: Travis, Hays, Comal, Guadalupe, and Bexar (see attached maps) Funded by the federal government and part of an experiment to improve post roads (see next section) in the country, the A-SAPR followed the requirements of the federal program as described below. The road followed routes established during the period of Spanish exploration, the Republic of Texas, and early statehood"--from introduction.
