Note:This file contains articles and photographs relating to the John D. Pitts family. General John Drayton Pitts (1798-1861) was an original settler of Stringtown. He married Eliza Permelia Graves in 1819. Many of the notes in the file are in Tula's hand. Also included is a folder from Al Lowman documenting the John J. King family, John D. Pitt's son-in-law, and another early settler of Stringtown.
Note:The file also contains hand-written genealogical notes on the following: George Malone, Sr. family; Robert Malone family; copies of letters from John to Eliza, dated 1842; Dave A. Combs family; Eliza Pope Pitts Malone; Bramwell Malone.
Note:John D. Pitts built a log house at what is now 231 N. Guadalupe St. (Old Post Office, State Bank, now [2015] Frost Bank) where the first Methodist services were held. There is a Historical Marker "Founding of the First Methodist Church" at that location.
