Note:There is a folder, TTWC CHURCHES--PRESBYTERIAN (FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH), that has history of the congregation. This folder concerns the materials documenting the Texas Historical Commission's designation in 1973.

Note:This congregation has had three buildings: the first was built in 1872 on the corner of Austin and Colorado Street; in 1897 they moved to the corner of Hutchison and Mary; and in 1952 they built a new church on the same site. Includes "A Brief History of the First Presbyterian Church, San Marcos, Texas, 1853-1973" written by Tula Townsend Wyatt. The church received a Texas Historical Marker in April 1973.

Note:"In 1848, Presbyterian settlers met in log courthouse to hear sermons by the rev. Nathaniel P. Charlot, teacher of area's first Sunday School. In 1853, circuit rider Humphrey W. Rogers and Mr. Charlot organized this church. The Rev. J. H. Zivley (1824-1905), also a circuit rider, from Austin, became first regular pastor in 1854. Original church building, at Austin (now LBJ) and Colorado, was erected 1872. Second, at present site, was occupied on Sept. 16, 1897. Present structure, built in 1952, was dedicated on the 100th anniversary, in October 1953." (1973)
