Note:Notes accompanying photo, probably from Tula: "About 1890. Jake Beidler and Pierce Caldwell--early settlers in San Marcos. Beidler was a man who did heavy construction and worked for Wilson Brothers when they owned the water works here (before the city purchased it). He lived near the H.A. Nelson home in back of old Evans Field. Caldwell was a carpenter and built and lived in the home where the Jack Williams live now. They were both great hunters and sportsmen and according to tales about them, Beidler made his coffee in a coffee can on an open fire, boiled it and could take it off the fire and drink it immediately--reminiscent of the general run of frontiersmen. They were both great story tellers and loved children. Note the powder pouch on Caldwell and the long barrel rifles. Photo courtesy of Paul Rogers."
