$aThis photograph shows the frame San Marcos Library on Hutchison Street prior to the 1966 San Marcos Public Library erection. This frame building shown has the Old Red Cross "canteen" attached to the back of it. Refer to Sanborn maps to see the "footprint" of the entire structure. It was administered by ladies' clubs of the era. It was next to the cemetery at the corner of Hutchison and Comanche. Replaced in 1966 with a new building in the same location by the first municipal Public Library by the City of San Marcos. The 1966 building used the entire corner lot, including where the old cemetery was. Graves were exhumed and moved to the City Cemetery in preparation for the 1966 construction. |
